I've been a professional writer for more than 25 years now. I started as a reporter with the Daily Cougar student newspaper while I attended the University of Houston, and I also worked during that time as a writer and photographer for Golfer Magazines, a Houston-based publication that covered golf news and feature stories throughout the state of Texas and Louisiana. After graduating from UH with a degree in journalism, I went to work in the Dallas area for the Richardson Daily News, then  came back home to work in the  sports department  at the Houston Post. My career went on from there. I've worked for a number of other newspapers and magazines as well. I also am the proud author of "Finding God in Texas," a book about people from all across my home state, and their thoughts and beliefs about spirituality, heaven and hell, God, the Bible, life after death, etc. What began as a simple idea to survey  random people about religion quickly evolved into a fascinating look inside the lives of everyday folks, and the events that have shaped their core – and highly varied – belief systems. When a publisher showed interest, my career as an author took off and now I have a dozen non-fiction titles available through Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and other outlets, with more books on the way soon.

I am a wordsmith. Good with words. I love words. And one of my strengths as a writer is interviewing people. A newspaper editor once said to me, "I don't know how you get people to say the things they say to you." It's just sort of a knack. Part of it is being a good listener. Too many interviewers ask a question, and then don't really listen to the answer. They're already thinking about the next question, and they miss something important that often takes the story in a new, unexpected direction. And, of course, there are other techniques that can make or break an interview, and those usually come with experience.

I love a good story. The stories I most like writing are stories about people's lives. Everybody has an interesting story – everybody. Your life is a fascinating story, whether you realize it or not. I guarantee it. If you've ever considered writing your life story, or maybe a book about your family history, or something, but don't know how to go about it – maybe you're in the middle of a project and need some help – let's talk! I'd love to help you tell a story. Send me an email and let's get started: [email protected]

A few reviews of John's books

The 30-Day Optimism Solution:
“I just re-read this book for the third time. I have read several books by John Clark and this book, by far, is my favorite. So much of our everyday lives are impacted by how we think about it. We have the power to choose but so many times we choose the easy wrong versus the slightly more difficult right. John may feel this book helped him more than it might help me but I think the positive impacting, even in the slightest, of another person's life is a great gift. I am so pleased for John's journey of discovery and awareness, moreover I am pleased to have this book in my possession. I am excited to recommend this book to several people I know.”

“This was the right book at the right time for me. I have been struggling with some things, and Clark offers some wonderful information on how to turn things around, not to mention describing his own struggles with negativity. I think this book is going to help a lot of people.” –

Depression Blues:
“Part memoir, part informative text. You get both when reading 'Depression Blues' by John H. Clark III. Mr. Clark shares his struggles with depression in an honest and real way, and as the book progresses, so does his hope. Woven into the story as jumping off points are bits of information about depression and ways to "conquer" the sadness, loneliness, and despair that comes with it.

Mr. Clark becomes more than an author in this book; he becomes a friend who understands the pain of depression and provides light. I recommend this book to anyone looking for light or to anyone who knows someone with depression and wants to learn more.”
